Thank You Web.png

As this election season comes to a close, I wanted to say thank you to the community for listening, for engaging with me, for asking questions, for challenging me and for voting – regardless of which way you cast your ballot.

My family and I did not enter into the decision to run for this position lightly, and I do not intend to take this position lightly. This position isn’t about me or one person, but requires teamwork and collaboration. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the community in this new way. Some of it will feel familiar and some of it will be brand new. I know that change can be difficult, but I also know that the people in the Sheriff's Office and in this community are resilient and that we can help each other.

Thank you to all the volunteers, canvassers, and supporters for all the ways you've contributed to #TeamRiewestahl. We're grateful for you and your time and energy.

We’ve made a few passes around the county picking up signs. If we missed your sign, they can be dropped off at the Democratic Resource Center (440 Broadway St, Eau Claire) or send us an email ( with your address and we will pick them up.

I’m looking forward to helping our department and county reunite and reengage with each other and I’m looking forward to seeing you at the table so we can make a long-lasting impact in Eau Claire County.

Take Part in Something Great

Putting My Life Experiences to Work for YOU

My name is Dave Riewestahl and I'm running for Sheriff of Eau Claire County.  I grew up in Altoona and call Eau Claire County home.

While growing up I was active in Scouting and am proud to call myself an Eagle Scout.  In high school, I enlisted in the US Army, and shortly after graduation I shipped off to basic training and then spent the next five years on active duty.  Two of those years were serving overseas.

After I honorably discharged from active duty I returned to Wisconsin and pursued higher education learning at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.  While there, I earned the following:

  •  Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

  •  Certificate in Death Investigation

  •  Certificate in Cultures & Communities

After graduation I returned to home and went to the Law Enforcement Academy at the Chippewa Valley Technical College.

Since 2007 I've been with the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office and have served the office in the following roles:

  • Correctional Officer

  • Patrol Deputy

  • Patrol Sergeant

  • Lieutenant & Assistant Jail Administrator

  • Captain & Jail Administrator

In these roles I've also taken on additional responsibilities as a:

  • Field Training Officer

  • Conduct Report Hearing Officer

  • Honor Guard

    • Member, Leader, and Commander

  • Evidence Technician

  • Crisis Negotiator

    • Member, Leader, and Commander

  • Computer Forensic Investigator

  • Recreation Patrol Officer

  • SWAT Operator

In my career I have had the most success when I collaborate with other departments, members of our community, and surrounding communities as a means of solving problems and concerns.

As a member of the community where my wife and I are raising our family, living, and working, I'm excited to use my skills and experiences to serve you as the next Sheriff of Eau Claire County.

Join me at the table and let's talk!
